“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don’t lean on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take” (Proverbs.3:5-6)
A famous worship leader Jason Upton once sang profoundly, “trusting You God is the purest form of worship”. Growing up, I always thought that worship was primarily a style. Either you were charismatic or you were reserved. You either clapped, danced and sung loudly, or you didn’t. However, the more we understand who God is and the relationship that He desires to have with us, the more we get to see that worship is really a posture of our heart. When the people of Israel were finally set free after 400 years of slavery from Egypt, they began marching out to freedom and the first thing they came to was the Red Sea. There were treacherous mountain ranges on both sides of them and the sea in front of them.
Behind them, in hot pursuit, was the Egyptian army because Pharaoh had changed his mind about letting them go. The path before the Israelites looked like a dead end.
But God knew exactly what He wanted to do. He had not made a mistake. He could see what they could not see. He opened the Red Sea and they walked through to safety. Years later, the Israelites looked back and sang, “Your road led by a pathway through the sea—a pathway no one knew was there!” (Psalm 77:19).
What looms in front of you that in your own understanding seems impossible, daunting and fearful?
Trusting God is a posture, and the Proverb above tells us that that posture is one where we shift our weight from leaning on our own understanding (our ability to work everything out) to leaning fully on God. If you aren’t too sure which path to take next, seek his will and He will show you which path for you to walk. And just like the Israelites, your worship of trusting Him will become your victory song.
