THE POTENTIAL FOR PROMOTION
In our new series ‘The Promotable Life’, we will discover what caused God to promote Joseph and what we can do that will allow God to promote us.
You won’t find the book of Joseph in the Bible, yet his encouraging story as recounted in the book of Genesis holds such a powerful lesson in what made him promotable by God. Looking at Joseph’s character, we can learn how God was able to supernaturally promote him from a prisoner to ultimately serving with great authority under the Pharaoh, in the palace of Egypt.
When Joseph’s potential encountered God’s power, he was continually promoted to where God could use him for His Glory.
There are 4 things a promotion is not:
- It is not a blessing of advancement, but a reward for a servant’s heart.
- It is not a reward bestowed from your boss but is given by God with a responsibility to give us more influence in the Kingdom of God.
- It is not a means to prosper us for what we do but is a blessing for who we are.
- It does not come from our hard work or accomplishments, but from our attitude
When we study Joseph’s background and the things he carried with him from his past, it reveals the strength of his character, his extraordinary faith, but mostly the sovereignty and providential working of his mighty God.
“PROMOTION COMES FROM GOD AND IS ALWAYS FOR HIS GLORY”
Although his family tree may have seemed rather dysfunctional, he didn’t allow it to become an excuse not to walk into the promises of God.
God’s providence in Joseph’s life wasn’t just for his own provision but was an opportunity for him to prophesy and share about the greatness of God. Like Joseph, we too need to realize our own potential and put our past behind us, so that we can walk into the inheritance God has planned for us, without any doubts, fears, or excuses.
